Somerset Holiday Apartments
- Lord Howe Island
Somerset
is centrally located and is ideal for all visitors to Lord Howe Island.
Neds Beach, the lagoon, restaurants and shops are within a few minutes
of the property.
Choose
from Superior or Standard self-catering accommodation. All units have separate
bedrooms and living areas, en suite bathrooms, plus covered verandahs for
entertaining and relaxing. Each unit is equipped with a fridge and microwave,
television, linen, fan, electric blankets, bath and beach towels.
Enjoy a short
walk to popular Neds Beach. At sunset each evening from September to May,
thousands of Flesh-footed Shearwaters return to their burrows in the palm forest
adjacent to the beach. You can watch them fly in and observe their courting and
breeding behaviour into the night. From November to May, Black-winged Petrels
perform spirited courtship flights above the cliffs. Each summer, sooty Terns
breed at the northern end of the beach.
Wander down to
the lagoon to see dozens of White Terns nesting in trees just a few metres above
the ground.
Or hike to the
top of Malabar Hill where the world's greatest breeding concentration of
Red-Tailed Tropicbirds can be seen.
The gardens at
Somerset are a haven for many of Lord Howe Island's landbirds. The LHI Golden
Whistler, LHI White-eye, Emerald Ground Dove, Woodhens and Banded Land Rails are
regularly seen foraging here.
