Your accommodation at Inala is a 3 bedroom (4 star rated) cottage on our 250 hectare property situated in close proximity to the South Bruny National Park.

Almost 90 bird species, all 12 Tasmanian endemics and several rare and threatened birds (such as the endangered Forty-spotted pardalote) are found on the property, and almost 130 bird species on Bruny Island.

You can choose from an accommodation-only stay (self-catering to fully catered options) to an all-inclusive bird tour.

Sheoaks on Freycinet

Enjoy year round comfort in our architect designed and purpose built waterfront B & B on Great Oyster Bay. All rooms have sea views, en suites, comfortable pillow topped beds and big fluffy towels. We serve great breakfasts using Tasmanian produce. Any other meals are available by arrangement, including packed lunches for those planning an all day walk.

In the guest sitting room you’ll find a comprehensive nature library, field guides and viewing scope. It’s also a comfortable place to chat with your fellow guests over a cup of coffee and home made biscuits. The guest deck is the perfect spot to watch the sunset whilst enjoying a glass of local wine and oysters fresh from the bay, or perhaps a barbecue meal.

Sheoaks is only 200 metres down a cliff path to a beach where hooded plovers nest. Freycinet National Park and Moulting Lagoon Ramsar Site are nearby. Qualified visitor assistance is provided. Mountain Valley Wilderness Holidays & 'Private Nature Reserve

Mountain Valley Wilderness Holidays & 'Private Nature Reserve' a special place set with a perpetual conservation covenant to protect the natural habitat. With just five log cabins catering for couples and families.  The cabins are fully self contained / catering but we can also provide all meals on request.

Mountain Valley has a bird list available. Be welcomed by the resident family of Tasmanian Native Hens being proud parents they love to show off their offspring to our guests. Colourful blue wrens and robins, Beautiful Firetail  and Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo in all their mixture of colours, just to name  a few. 11 of the 12 Tasmanian endemic birds can be  seen along with some of the threatened species such as the Grey (white) Goshawk and Wedge -tailed Eagle.

Our 'Private Nature Reserve' registered with the government is a wet mixed forest containing the endangered Eucalyptus viminalis, Limestone Karst systems and is also home to a number of  threatened species from invertebrates to birds and mammals such as the Spotted Tail Quoll and Tasmanian Devil.

Guests can participate in evening platypus tours, Glow worm grotto and forest habitat / bird tours. In the evening guests can experience their own individual wildlife experience outside their cabin where they will be visited by wallabies, possums, quolls and the Tasmanian devil.

Boat & Pelagic Tours

Pelagic trips from Eaglehawk Neck, Tasmania
run at irregular intervals 3 to 4 times a year. They are organised on a not for profit basis and cost $75 to $85 depending on the number of participants. One-off charters can be arranged for six or more people although several months notice is required to organise the vessel. Compared with other Australian pelagics Tasmanian Pelagic trips are characterised by high species diversity but relatively low numbers of individuals. Winter possibilities include Grey Petrel, Sooty Albatrosses, Royal Albatross, Prions, Grey Backed Storm-Petrels and other cold water species. The main focus of those tours was the Plains-wanderer. While the Plains-wanderer is still our flagship species we have increased our repertoire to include all States of Australia and New Zealand, specialising in difficult skulkers and nocturnal birds.

Birdwatching Aficionados - Jonny Schoenjahn
I specialize in customised birdwatching tours and operate exclusively on request. There are no standard tours or regular schedules. I only take one booking at a time with a maximum of 4 people. This means you will be the only customers on the tour and my attention is focused on your pleasure.

All tours are accommodated in personally selected, quality accommodation. The exception being tours such as through the Great Sandy Desert in search of the rare Princess Parrot, where we will camp. My vehicle is a very comfortable, spacy and well equipped Toyota Landcruiser 4WD. With most tours you have the option to 'fly and drive', the choice is yours.
